Satin & Silk Scrunchies

This is the format people buy for their hair rather than for their outfit, and the reason is friction. A smooth low-friction surface slides against the cuticle instead of catching it, which is why satin and silk are recommended for anybody who ties their hair up daily or sleeps in it.

The words are the problem. Satin is a weave — a way of interlacing yarn to give a smooth face — and you can weave satin from polyester, from viscose or from silk. Silk is a fibre. Almost everything sold as a “silk scrunchie” is polyester satin, which is a perfectly good product and is not silk.

So we name the fibre and the weave separately on every quote. Polyester satin is smooth, cheap, durable and washes well. Genuine mulberry silk is smoother still, considerably more expensive and worth it for the right customer. Both are honest; only one of them is silk.
